One More Point On Allies in ERGs

Hey Champs,

Quick follow-up from yesterday’s session about opening ERGs to allies. Here’s the thing: your ERG already has allies—and yep, I know “infiltrated” might sound a little extra, but hear me out.

You are an ally. Not just to other ERGs but within your own community. Let’s break it down:

Even as a Black woman, specifically African American, I’m also an ally to Nigerian immigrants, Caribbean Black folks, LGBTQ+ Black folks, Black parents, Black folks with disabilities, and so many other layers of diversity within our shared community.

Here’s the irony: while some of us hesitate to welcome allies, we’re sometimes not even showing up as allies for others in our own diaspora. The real challenge isn’t about allies—it’s about learning how to truly facilitate community. That’s the missing skill we need to master, and it’s something I’m fired up to focus on in 2025.
